RCSP Team Leader’s Next Career: TV Star?

Rocket City Space Pioneers Team Leader Tim Pickens is at it again! He has received national media coverage from some of his home inventions, and his latest venture is an upcoming television show highlighting his space work and hobbies.

Tim gained national media attention in 2005 with his rocket bike, which actually employed the same hybrid rocket technology as the suborbital spaceplane, SpaceShipOne, winner of the $10 million Ansari XPRIZE, whose propulsion systems he helped design.

Tim has been featured in Popular Science, Popular Mechanics and CNN Money magazines; on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart; in Air and Space Magazine; in the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times, just to name a few outlets.

Now, the National Geographic Channel has produced a 30-minute show dedicated to Tim’s “man cave,” his work at Dynetics, and his home projects. The episode is part of a series called “Mad Scientists,” which will air this fall on National Geographic. We can’t tell you too much – you’ll have to tune in to catch the action. Tim has the host involved in his antics, as well as family members and people in the Huntsville community.

The series will begin on September 28 and air every Wednesday night on the National Geographic Channel. The tentative time is 10 p.m. Eastern, but this could change. Two “mad scientists” will be run per night, back to back.

You can view a trailer of the series here:

Tim had a lot of fun filming the show and he hopes his fans enjoy watching him! Stay tuned for more.
