An Exciting Week in the Rocket City

This has been an exciting week for Space in Huntsville, Alabama! The International Space Development Conference (ISDC) is in town; Mr. Robert Bigelow and Jay Ingham of Bigelow Aerospace visited the Rocket City; and my 12-year-old daughter, Taylor, graduated from U.S. Space Camp today.

The Rocket City Space Pioneers are displaying our wares, along with Dynetics, at our booth at ISDC and had several team members helping out. We were excited to announce our newest team member, Moog. Moog brings its heritage and proven flight hardware experience including the ESPA (Evolved Expendable Launch Secondary Payload Adapter) to the team. The ESPA is a key element of our rideshare program.

Tomorrow, RCSP Team Leader Tim Pickens will participate in the Google Lunar XPRIZE panel along with representatives from several other teams. That should be an interesting session. It will be moderated by Michael Doornbos of evadot.com.
Mr. Bigelow and Jay, his vice president, visited the U.S. Space & Rocket Center/U.S. Space Camp and Marshall Space Flight Center. Mr. Bigelow also spoke at the conference gala and received a Space Achievement Award. Mr. Bigelow is a modern pioneer of space. We were thrilled to host him and Jay in our city. Dynetics developed the forward thruster for his Sundancer module. We hope to see more of Mr. Bigelow and his staff in the future.

On a personal note, my sixth-grader’s class went to Space Camp this week, and I watched her graduate with dozens of other children. They were inspired by astronaut Story Musgrave. I’m glad my daughter had the opportunity to experience this adventure.

There is still a day-and-a-half left of the conference, so I’ll be up and out in the morning to work the booth.
More on the project later . . .
