UPDATE – NEW Lunar Lander Crash Record!

UPDATE – New Lunar Lander Crash Record!

NEW “Crash” Landing Speed Record = 303.7 mps!

Here are a few ‘Lessons Learned’ and ‘Hints’ to achieve a 303.7 mps lunar impact speed:

3) Definitely use the great hints previously provided by Magalie and Bennett – they really work – thanks for the tips!

2) Here are our team's lessons learned (which are only a refinement of Magalie and Bennett’s second hint last week). We achieved our best results by using about ¾ of the fuel on the first maneuver and leaving about ¼ of the fuel for the final continuous burn. This gave us a Post Maneuver 1 maximum altitude of ~ 15,000 km. We then started our last continuous burn at ~ 3440 km altitude. This worked great – thanks again Magalie and Bennett! Although we believe that we are approaching a simulation impact speed maximum, we still challenge everyone to beat our record. Good Luck!

1) Have FUN!

You can continue to send us your best scores to magic@kelvin.net and we will publish your team’s accomplishments on the blog post or just leave a comment below to let us know what you’ve learned and how well your team did.

Mystical Moon

PS We have several teams with young astronauts like Bennett – keep practicing and "thus you shall go to the stars" !
