The JURBAN robot is called the JOHLT. The JOHLT is based on the acronym Jemison, Ocha, Lawrence, Herrington + Triphibian (for Air, Land, and Sea applications). It was named after minority astronauts, so we figured we would give you a little more info about them.
Mae Carol Jemison - was the first African American woman to travel in space when she went into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on September 12, 1992. Jemison's inspiration for joining NASA was the African-American actress Nichelle Nichols, who portrayed Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek and has the distinction of being the first real astronaut ever to appear on Star Trek. See episode "Second Chances". After NASA she started the Jemison Group that researches, markets, and develops science and technology for daily life - http://www.jemisonfoundation.org/drmae.htm
Ellen Lauri Ochoa - was the first Hispanic woman to go into space when she served on aboard the shuttle Discovery in 1993. She is currently Deputy Director of the Johnson Space Center, helping to manage and direct the Astronaut Office. Team lead Blaze Sanders had 2 hour breakfast with her, when she came to Johns Hopkins University to visit Stanford friend and JHU Provost Kristina M. Johnson as well as casual passes during his internship at Johnson Space Center - http://web.jhu.edu/announcements/students/targetpage.html?baid=25263
Robert Henry Lawrence - was the first African-American astronaut in 1967 when he was elected by the USAF as an astronaut in the Air Force's Manned Orbital Laboratory (MOL) program. (That is before Apollo 11 landing people!) However he died December 8, 1967, in the crash of an F-104 Starfighter before flying to space. NASA cited Lawrence for accomplishments and flight maneuver data that "contributed greatly to the development of the Space Shuttle - http://raahistory.com/military/airforce/lawrence/lawrence.htm
John Bennett Herrington - was the first *enrolled* member of a Native American tribe to fly in space when he flew aboard STS-113 Endeavour in 2002, where he carried a Chickasaw Nation flag on his eleven-day trip. The flag had been presented to him by Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. Note: William R. Pogue, of Choctaw ancestry, was the first Native American astronaut, but was not an enrolled member of a tribe - http://www.spacetoday.org/Astronauts/NativeAmerican.html
