Message from BMT leader, Xavier Claramunt

As you have seen in previous posts, our team was in California for its second team summit since we entered the competition in April 2010. During these months we have been working hard to build up a feasible and credible project that would bring together universities, research centers and private companies in our country.

One year later we are glad to count with the support from the Aerospace Technology Center in Barcelona, the Technical University of Catalonia, and private companies such Altran, Stardust Consulting, or New Output. We are also working with the Spanish aerospace industry, as we will soon announce, while the two most important aerospace institutions, the Center for Technology and Industry Development (CDTI) and the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA), also support the project, seen as an important effort for a change of paradigm within the space industry.

With the necessary investment coming from sponsorship and the sell of cargo to private companies and probably to agencies, our next steps include the realization of Phase A studies during the upcoming months, with the definition for launch, cruise and landing segments.

In terms of outreach, our team will participate in the 2011 edition of one of the most famous aerial festivals in Europe, la Festa del Cel, in early October, and we will visit schools and high-schools to share the project with youngsteds.

We’ll keep you posted on new updates!

Xavier Claramunt
Barcelona Moon Team leader.
