On 10-13 July 2011, ARCA attended the Google Lunar X Prize summit held at NASA Ames Research Center and at Seti Institute in San Francisco.
ARCA presented IAR-111, the program for the Google Lunar X Prize $30 million competition. The team was able to talk to the engineers at NASA Ames Research Center about the aircraft, the spaceship models tested in wind tunnels and the protection of the vehicles in re-entry into Earth's atmosphere.
"It was an opportunity for us to see at NASA Ames legendary places where were tested experimental aircraft and cabins that have carried Apollo astronauts to the moon and the Space Shuttle. There are places where history overwhelms you everywhere and you are extremely close to living again experiments that you have learned about from research papers published by NASA. A truly overwhelming experience. "- Dumitru Popescu, ARCA president.
An impressive moment was when three Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station came into contact with the participants at the Summit and expressed their thoughts about the importance of the competition and the opening of a new era in private exploration of the cosmos.
At the end of the Summit, ARCA was also present at the Headquarters of Google where they discussed strategies for competition, as well as better promotion of ARCA team using Google technology.
ARCA competition program for Google Lunar X Prize is financed exclusively by private sources, with the support of partners BRD-Groupe Societe Generale, Calor, AGI, Grapefruit, Lexgrup, with first flight scheduled for autumn 2012.
