SANTIAGO, APRIL 2011
Mrs.
Maria Teresa Infante Marshall
Executive Director

Av B. O'Higgins 1371, Piso 4
Santiago
Dear Director:
Through this, I am pleased to greet you and in my duty as Aerospace Director of Angelicum-Chile, I hereby present you an ambitious private initiative related to space exploration, which we want to involve and invite to all the universities belonging to the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities.
We are confident that upon learning of this exciting project, the various universities that make up our Higher Level Academic System, will be interested in participating actively in it, helping to increase the national awareness of the use of space technology and science development, to bring together students, teachers, professionals and institutions for study and research, in a common goal which can produce a positive push to our history.
The X PRIZE Foundation and Google Inc., known as "Google Lunar X Prize" (GLXP) have organized an international competition in order to put a robot on the moon that is developed by the participating teams and in turn this robot travel the lunar surface a minimum distance of 500 meters, record data and video information in a format HD pre-established and transmitted to Earth. This competition provides a prize purse totaling $ 30 million, of which U.S. $ 20 million goes for the team that wins the first place and another $ 10 million in secondary prizes, among which we highlight a prize U.S. $ 1 million for special efforts in the dissemination and full participation of the entire global community in this project.
In late December 2010, leading a team of specialists which has been called "Team Angelicum Chile", proceeded to enter our country in a global competition aimed only at private parties, signing a document called the Master Team Agreement in which includes all conditions and rules of engagement. To do this, we proceeded to pay the sum of USD 50,000 for registration and authorization to participate.
The official website of this competition is www.googlelunarxprize.org , where you can meet the 29 teams that reached to register before December 31, 2010, where the Nr. 27 team is the Chilean Angelicum, where also involved with different dates beginning from the year 2008, teams from United States of NA, Italy, Rumania, Malaysia, Denmark, China, Germany, Russia, Spain, Israel, Hungary, Canada, India, Brazil and 5 multinational teams.
Knowing the interest of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities in space matters, and considering that he is duly represented on the Presidential Advisory Committee known as the Chilean Space Agency, whose chairman is Mr. Undersecretary for Economic Affairs, I hereby request you may have kindly circulate this call to participate in the development of this project whose vision is beyond the fact to compete for a prize, but is intended to be a motivator of the national spatial awareness and encourage take-up of Chilean scientific and technological activities in areas as diverse as telecommunications, robotics, engineering (electrical, mechanical, electronics, computers and computer technology), automation and control, telemetry and tele-command, software and other disciplines. In addition, to present this project to the authorities of Council members.
I take this opportunity to inform you that on this date we have also proceeded to send a letter on this subject to each Rector belonging to the Governing Council of University Presidents. Also, we are pleased to inform you that we are in the process of signing a Partnership Agreement with the Chilean Space Agency and also considering contacts with foreign space agencies, governmental and private, and taking and about 50 applications of Chilean professionals in various fields that have expressed interest in participating in this project.
Finally, I express our total availability to attend meetings you may consider to explain the scope of this project, which Angelicum has taken on behalf of our country.
Expecting a warm welcome to this, I remain yours
