First Aerospace Seminar organized in The University of Concepción
Last Tuesday May 16th, in the city of Concepción located about 500 Km south of the Capital Santiago, took place the first Aerospace Seminar organized by the Aerospace Society (formed by students and graduate engineers of the Aerospace Engineering Career of Universidad de Concepción) and Angelicum Chile.
120 attendants, among students, professors, deans and graduated from Science and Engineering careers, coming from the University of Concepción and others authorities invited. All of them learned about the effort displayed by Team Angelicum Chile, to be one of the 29 teams in competition worldwide, to send a robot to the moon in the International GOOGLE LUNAR X PRIZE.
Klaus von Storch, Angelicum’s Aerospace Director and Team Leader of Angelicum Chile with the “Alicanto Mission”, presented all the detalis of these unprecedented competition, along with his own testimony related with the hard work to run as the unique astronaut candidate for Chile, began in late 2000. In his speech, were included the participation as combat pilot in the Chilean Air Force, the medical examination and test conducted through the standard protocol in the Russian Space Federation, parabolic flight done at ESA facilities, Chilean spaced educational projects, operation of the First Chilean microsatellite FASAT, etc.
Using the occasion of this first aerospace seminar, Team Leader Klaus von Storch and Team member Héctor Gutiérrez and with the purpose to create and interdisciplinary network to carry out this aerospace Project, Angelicum Chile have initiated an intense agenda of meetings with all the universities and mainly with their engineering faculties, thus promoting the space exploration in the young scientific and engineers whom have been attracted by this field but at the same time they need to visualize the concrete possibilities of work.
To cope that inquiry and need, in the frame of this seminar, Héctor Gutiérrez, acting as subdirector of Aerospace Direction in Angelicum Chile, held meetings at the University of Concepción, with the Deans and Chiefs of Careers in the Faculty of Engineering and specifically in the Field of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering. Also participated some docents and some principals in the Aerospace Society, with whom the Angelicum’s Aerospace Direction will sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
We have in mind that this University, through the Aerospace Engineering, have the role and responsibility to define the Mission of the ALICANTO in the Team Angelicum, including orbital mechanics, launching, landing and other technical aspects of the project.
We are posting today some photos from the Seminar with the general attendance.
