Angelicum Team Introduction

Welcome to the Angelicum Team blog. We are proud to be the first and the unique South American-based team to enter the GLXP and our team, headquartered in Santiago of Chile, is comprised of the most qualified Airspace and Satellite engineers from all of the space initiatives carried out in our nation since 1993; through 3 satellite projects, the participation in education projects with NASA and the ISS, one existing project to send our Chilean astronaut candidate who should operate a set of 3 scientific and other educational experiments, and also the creation of the Chilean Space Agency, constituted in 2001 as a Presidential Advisory Commission.

Angelicum Chile, a society of private entrepreneurs, formed its Airspace Direction a year ago and it has responded this international call made by the Google Lunar X Prize with the challenge to join all the human and material resources already existent in Chile. Together with other national institutions, we will invite and welcome the participation of professors and students from national and international universities as well as representatives from industry, the business community, technology developers, entrepreneurs, and to all interested people who would like to contribute to the development and success of this challenging project.

We firmly believe that this amazing project will revolutionize not only the globe in general, but also in a special manner to our country, located in the end of the world which in the past, from the decades of the 50s and 60s, was the first in various world space programs, such as supporting the space missions launched by NASA, being the first country in Latin America to implement Ground Stations for Satellite Telecommunications in Longovilo, to responding quickly to the call made by NASA in 1985 in order to establish an alternative runway for emergency landing of the space shuttle, offering at that time the Easter Island. Also our representatives have taken high responsibilities in the UN COPUOS, being one of the first country to sign the space treaties related with the peaceful uses of the outer space, and last but not the least, we are proud to show to the international and global space community the most important International Air and Space Fair (FIDAE) which open its doors every 2 years with the last one in 2010.

This challenging space technology development will require us to search and recognize new related technologies in diverse fields such as robotics, telecommunication, data and image processing, automation and control, and teleprocesses. This endeavour will help us to improve and increase awareness and interest in space exploration across Chile and Latin America. We expect and hope that, through our participation, we will be able to motivate and encourage our citizens and discover new talents, especially in the area of the technology and science.

During March, after the whole period of vacation in Chile we have planned to make a national announcement and we will go through some general and specific agreements with universities, private companies, industries, researchers, professionals and other from the area of the communications, education to make of this space project, a national call for the science and technology.
