Angelicum explaining the first activities

28th April 2011

It has been a very productive time since the end of December 2010, when Team Angelicum from Chile decided to enter the competition, with only 1 day to complete the last chance and knowing that this exciting challenge began 3 years ago for others competitors. However, we have a firm vision to serve to our country as an instrument, a mean, to provide an strong push to the science and technology in general and to the space in particular, in order to get definitively into the use, education, production, search of the peaceful use of the outer space and the space exploration.
We think that from the private sector, we should be able to contribute with the governmental institutions in its effort to create an official Space Agency, to offer practical solutions to the investigations in the universities and others fiscal organizations.
In our knowledge, Angelicum is the unique private organization in our country which has created an Aerospace Direction with specific support, belonging to a strong structure and appointing in it the most experienced aerospace and satellite engineers available and with a very productive network of contacts, national and international.
We offer our excuses to our friend Team SpaceMeta from Brazil, because until some time in February, before the final announcement made by XPF on 17th of February 2011, we really knew that Chile was the only South American country in competition. But it is better!! We can think in something?
Since that announcement, we finally knew that we are 29 competitors, including some very important space companies, leaders in the space technology and moreover in the space exploration, coming from US and others countries, that produces in our environment a good pride to be counted among them!!
In all these 4 months, delaying the public announcement through all the national media, the Team Angelicum has working identifying all the public and private institutions with some resources in robotics and taking contact with them, we have received 50 letters of intention from professionals offering their experience and knowledge in different areas of the engineering, just waiting our call to begin working in the team. We have sent official letter to the 25 public Chilean universities offering this space project to work together.
In another hand, Angelicum Company is organizing in such a way that very soon we will have the support of professional in the areas of International Relationships, Legal, Public Relations (Press, web , etc.), TI and we have received space assigned for the project, getting room for office, meeting rooms, communications, etc.

In this last weeks we have contacted to the Presidential Advisory Commission called “Chilean Space Agency” (www.agenciaespacial.cl ) elaborating a Memorandum of Understanding in order to get and bring mutual support in space activities. Also we enter in contact with the Surrey Satellite Technology Limited from UK and CONAE from Argentina, looking for the terms in which the Team Angelicum can get some support and assistance in the development and future activities related with the Assembly, Integration and Test and the most difficult area related with the Launch opportunity.

During April we had a fruitful meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International and Human Security Direction, Sub-Directorate for Aerospace and Telecommunication Affairs, offering the expertise in the space matters already existing in Angelicum and coordinating the official attendance of the Aerospace Direction through the Angelicum Team Leader Klaus von Storch K. in the next COPUOS Assembly between 1 to 11 of June 2011 in the United Nations Office in Vienna, looking for international contacts and opportunities in space collaborations.
Our webpage is almost finished (refurbished) www.glxpangelicum.cl and we hope that we will be in contact with all the Chilean and international space community to share articles, activities and waiting for some specific support, donors, sponsorships and technical exchanges.
We will be in touch more regularly.
